Formulasi Konsep Estetika Seni Islam dalam Perspektif Ismail Raji al-Faruqi

Abstract:

In Islamic thought treasures, concept of Islamic esthetics not yet got serious attention from Islamic intellectuals. Its Implication, Islam hadn’t had well established esthetics concept that can be applied on development of Islamic art. Ismail Raji al-Faruqi is one of Islamic intellectuals which popularize the idea of science Islamization, that having great concern to this problem. According to him, Islamic art represent historical product constituted by view of Islamic world stemming from al-Qur’an. Hence, Islamic art also called ‘Koran art’, namely art influenced by aesthetic expression of al-Qur’an, whether in form or its contents. There are three level 1) al-Qur’an as tauhid’s instruction or transcend 2) al-Qur’an as artistic model, and 3) al-Qur’an as artistic icon. This al-Faruqi’s formulation becomes early step that very significant to reformulate conception of the more comprehensive Islamic esthetics.

Pendahuluan

Dalam kajian keislaman, kita selalu menemui sebuah jalan buntu ketika memasuki wilayah kajian seni Islam. Kebuntuan tersebut muncul dari ambivalensi sikap kaum muslim sendiri dalam menangani persoalan dunia seni. Di satu sisi, sebagian besar orang muslim dapat dipastikan akan mengatakan bahwa Islam sama sekali tidak bertentangan apalagi melarang seni. Dengan penuh semangat mereka akan mengemukakan sejumlah argumen, baik naqliyah, maupun aqliyah, untuk memperkuat pandangan mereka.
